Winchmore Hill, London
A complete renovation and rear extension to a run down one bedroom Victorian flat in North London.
The project was realized through the joint planning application with neighbours, allowing to maximize the footprint of both houses and create new living spaces adequate to each family's requirements.
A key in the initial planning studies was to remodel the existing layout and create an extension by 'borrowing' space from the garden.
A modern open space, incorporating kitchen, dining and living areas was moved to the garden, whilst maintaining original period details to the two bedrooms.
In order to maximize the natural light in the north facing new part of the building, a well thought out positioning of skylights and large expanses of glazing was used, which also provide connection and extension of the living area into the rear garden and inner courtyard.
